Event Information: A-bombed Survivor Tree Sketching Contest on Oct. 6 (Sun.)

A-bombed Survivor tree sketching contest will be held on Sunday, October 6. 

The participants will depict the Kurogane Holly at Hiroshima Castle. 

Fee is free and advance registration is not required.

1) 9:00-9:30 Registration 

9:30-13:00 Explanation, drawing

13:30-17:00 Explanation, drawing 

17:00 Deadline for submission of works 

 

The exhibition will be postponed in case of rain.

Postponement will be announced on the day of the event on the Green Greetings website. 

 

Reception:Honmaru Hon-ei Ruins of Hiroshima Castle (Motomachi 21, Naka-ku, Hiroshima City) 

Drawing site: In front of Kurogane Holly, Honmaru of Hiroshima Castle 

 

When drawing, please be considerate so as not to disturb the sightseeing of the general public. 

Paper and drawing boards will be handed out at the reception desk. Please bring your own painting materials. 

No water will be available on the day of the event, so we recommend using crayons and colored pencils.

If you use paints, please do not dispose of the water at Hiroshima Castle or nearby facilities. 

Submitted works will be photographed on the spot and returned.

We will publish your work on the Green Greetings website later.

Deregistration of Weeping Willow

A weeping willow that was accidentally cut down in March 2023 was found to be dead and the tree was deleted from the A-bombed tree registry.
The number of trees registered as A-bombed trees in Hiroshima City is now 159.

Donation to the City of Hiroshima

Green Greetings Project donated a part of the contributions from the supporting organizations to the City of Hiroshima to be used for protecting A-bombed trees.

An explanatory board was placed in front of the trees planted in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park by the leaders of the G7 nations in the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

An explanatory board was placed in front of the trees planted in Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park by the leaders of the G7 nations in the G7 Hiroshima Summit.

The signboard features a photo and text of the G7 leaders taken after they visited the Cenotaph for the A-bomb Victims and offered flowers to the victims of the atomic bombing and logo of the Summit. Please take a look at it as well as the tree planted to commemorate the event.

The 18th tour of A-bombed Trees

The 18th tour of A-bombed Trees was guided by arborist Chikara Horiguchi. About 30 general participants departed from the North Exit of Hiroshima Station and toured Futaba-no-sato Daini Park, Tsuruhane Shrine, Myojoin Temple, Anrakuji Temple, Hoshoin Temple, Ikari Shrine, Komyoin Temple, and Tokuoji Temple in about two hours.

Tour of A-bombed survivor trees will be held as a part of a project “Hiroshima Experience to think about Peace -Learn, feel and think about peace in Hiroshima-” sponsored by the Chugoku Shimbun and co-sponsored by the City of Hiroshima.

The Chugoku Shimbun and the City of Hiroshima will also offer special exhibition at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, a recital on a piano that survived the A-bomb and Hiroshima Christmas Market.

The program “Hear the Voices of Hiroshima’s A-bombed Trees,” produced and broadcast by RCC Broadcasting on Sunday, March 26, 2023, has been nominated for the Tokyo Documentary Film Festival 2023 in the category of “Voices of War: The Voiceless”.
The program features the treatment of A-bombed trees by arborist Chikara Horiguchi.

Second gerenation of A-bombed Somei-Yoshino Cherry Blossom Tree was planted in the event plaza at the site of the former Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium by Mrs. Yuko Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, in commemoration of the G7 Hiroshima Summit Partners Program.

Second gerenation of A-bombed Somei-Yoshino Cherry Blossom Tree was planted in the event plaza at the site of the former Hiroshima Municipal Baseball Stadium by Mrs. Yuko Kishida, Prime Minister of Japan, in commemoration of the G7 Hiroshima Summit Partners Program.

The tree planted was grafted and grown from A-bombed Somei-Yoshino Cherry Blossom Tree in Hiroshima City Hall, and is not an A-bombed tree.
We received signatures of support from the G7 leaders’ partners for this tree planting to be conducted after the G7 summit in the Partners Program during the G7 Hiroshima Summit. The signatures are placed as an explanatory board near the planted tree.
