皆実（みなみ）小学校のシダレヤナギは、校庭の国旗掲揚塔の横で、支柱に支えられながら立っています。原爆によって学校の建物は倒壊し、多くの人が犠牲になりました。当時はヤナギの並木がありましたが、ほとんどが消滅し、そのうちの1本が生き残りました。全校生徒が集まる朝礼は、このシダレヤナギの前で行われ、皆実小学校のシンボルツリーになっています。

The weeping willow at Minami Elementary School stands next to the flagpole in the schoolyard with the help of supports. The school building was destroyed in the bombing, claiming the lives of many. There used to be a willow-lined walkway, but nearly all of them were lost in the bombing with the exception of this one. It has become the symbol of the elementary school, and all morning assemblies are held in front of this weeping willow tree.
